Tuesday Night Video – Shame on YouTube

When Rush Limbaugh went after Sandra Fluke, Daily Kos employed fair use in order to put together a compilation of Limbaugh’s 53 attacks and post it on YouTube. Yesterday, YouTube informed Daily Kos that they were pulling the clip due to a copyright claim by Rush’s minions. It’s disappointing to see YouTube act against the use of fair use in a clear case of journalism. Kos has complained, but in the meantime they have posted the video on Vimeo for old time’s sake.

Best of the Week: The Colbert Report on Wall Street, Santorum, and more

MONDAY (March 12, 2012)

The guest on Monday was Katherine Boo, author of Behind the Beautiful Forevers: Life, death, and hope in a Mumbai undercity. I was struck by one of her comments, which points out how regressive our political culture is when we’re not even trying to get rid of poverty.

I come back here and I think “Oh, if we were really serious about fixing poverty, we could do it in like, half a second.”

Limbaugh: No Boarding

Rush Limbaugh’s Sandra Fluke hack job isn’t the first time he’s focused that famed Limbaugh sense of fairness on contraception. Here’s a quote from his book The Way Things Ought to Be:

The worst of all this is the lie that condoms really protect against AIDS. The condom failure rate can be as high as 20 percent. Would you get on a plane–or put your children on a plane–if one in five passengers would be killed on the flight? Well, the statistic holds for condoms, folks.

Best of the Week: The Colbert Report on Limbaugh, Romney, and more…

MONDAY (March 5, 2012)

After all the commentary on Rush Limbaugh’s misogynistic attacks on law student Sandra Fluke, Colbert came up with an insight often missing from the conversation…

I don’t understand why this man has gone through four wives.

…adding…

I don’t think that Rush should have apologized for calling her a prostitute. I mean, it takes one to know one. And remember, he only apologized to keep his advertisers, proving Rush will do anything with his mouth for cash.

MONDAY (March 5, 2012)

What was Jon Stewart’s main complaint about Rush Limbaugh and the Fox News folk assaulting Sandra Fluke for her advocacy on female health care?

I’m just saying to the people who are upset about their hard-earned tax money going to things they don’t like, “Welcome to the f#$@ing club.” Everyone pays for sh@$ they don’t want to all the time. You know what? Reimburse me for the Iraq War and oil subsidies and guess what, then — diaphragms are on me.

The Bogus Rush Limbaugh / Bill Maher Comparison

The conservatives are rushing to defend Limbaugh by saying “other people have said bad things, too!” and their number one example is comedian Bill Maher. The comparison is bogus, because…

1. it discounts the extent of Limbaugh’s lengthy attack against Sandra Fluke,

2. it ignores the fact that Fluke was testifying as a private citizen, and

3. it fails to account for Limbaugh’s decades-long pattern of misogyny.

Rush Limbaugh’s Greatest Hits

As we hear the good news that nine advertisers have dropped their support of the Rush Limbaugh Show, it might be a good time to remember Rush’s history of offensive statements.

1. In September 2007, Limbaugh said that soldiers who criticized the Iraq war were “phony soldiers.”

Saturday Night Videos – The Ed Show Takes On Rush Limbaugh

This week Rush Limbaugh went on record that women who have sex are sluts. It’s rare for him to backtrack on his bile, which is why his statement

I sincerely apologize to Ms. Fluke for the insulting word choices.

is being misunderstood as an actually apology, rather than what it is, which is a weasel’s claim that style is what counts here, and not substance.
