Donna Summer Has Been Left Out In The Rain

I find the song “MacArthur Park” mesmerizing. Written by Jimmy Webb, the song first became a hit when the actor Richard Harris recorded it in 1968, as if on a dare. And the public accepted said dare, buying the single of the song which appears to bemoan a melted cake with operatic despair.

I don’t think that I can take it
’cause it took so long to bake it
And I’ll never have that recipe again
Oh, no!
