Lindsay Lohan on Saturday Night Live

Lindsay Lohan hosted Saturday Night Live this past weekend because Lorne Michaels works overtime to make the show relevant to the pop culture discussion, while Lohan needed a forum in which to show insurance companies that she can be relied upon to show up for her gigs and that she hasn’t sputtered out at the age of 25.

My thoughts were mixed as I saw Lohan step forward to make her monologue. Lindsay is such a subject of scrutiny that the liveness of the show felt like it mattered again. There’s Lindsay, it’s actually her!

But what happened to her face?

Lana Del Rey’s Growing Pains

I first heard about Lana Del Rey during the lead-up to her January 14th appearance on Saturday Night Live. It was a big deal that producer Lorne Michaels booked a musical act who hadn’t yet had major label success, and the critical reaction was widely negative. Actress Juliette Lewis withdrew her initial tweet, that had stated

Wow, watching this ‘singer’ on SNL is like watching a 12-year-old in their bedroom when they’re pretending to sing and perform #signofourtimes.
