TV in Review: Modern Family, “Tableau Vivant”

This week’s Modern Family was a collection of mini-dramas.

Alex wants to impress the one teacher who plays hard to get, and she plans on doing it by having her family participate in reenacting a classic Norman Rockwell painting. Cameron doesn’t want to tell Lily when to nap, and he certainly wants to avoid the word “no.” Phil wants to fire Mitchell from the work Mitch has been doing for Phil’s firm. Gloria doesn’t appreciate the sandwich named after Jay. Haley sneaks in late at night. Phil is a stress blinker. Gloria is too loud.

Like mini cupcakes, mini-dramas can be fun, although not necessarily as satisfying as the real (bigger) thing.
