Monday Night Video – Speaking Bengazhi Truths on the Fox Network

FOX: When you have four people dead including the first US ambassador in more than 30 years, how do you call that hype?

TOM RICKS: How many security contractors died in Iraq, do you know?

FOX: I don’t.

RICKS: No, nobody does, because nobody cared. We know that several hundred died, but there was never an official count done, of security contractors dead in Iraq. So when I see this focus on what was essentially a small fire fight, I think number one, I’ve covered a lot of fire fights, it’s impossible to figure out what happens in them sometimes. And second, I think that the emphasis on Benghazi has been extremely political partly because Fox was operating as a wing of the Republican party.

FOX: All right. Tom Ricks, thanks very much for joining us today.

RICKS: You’re welcome.

Fox’s Cheney Shows Her Foreign-Policy Chops

[President Obama]‘s abandoned some of our key allies like… Czechoslovakia.

Foreign policy needs a firm fist;
Our weak leader gives just a limp wrist.
The incompetent bum
Fails our friends, even some
That for twenty years now don’t exist.

The Daily Show on Fox’s Love of War

Rather than argue about the merits of the policies, Fox and the Republicans have turned their focus to the Democrats’ rhetoric, which is a significant hint that the Democrats should keep using that language. It’s working and it’s accurate.

Best of the Week: The Daily Show with “You Might Be a Romney if…” and more

MONDAY (March 12, 2012)

Did you see Jon Stewart reveal the Mitt Romney / Jeff Foxworthy connection? That was my favorite part of Monday’s show.

Everything Romney knows about the South he learned from a Jeff Foxworthy routine. I swear to God, it’s like “If you have a working 52 inch plasma TV on top of an also working 52 inch plasma TV, you might be a Romney. If your favorite kind of fireworks is firing people at work…” I mean seriously, where is Romney getting this stuff?

Polentical is dipping its very small toe into the Twitterverse, for those who would prefer to be notified of new posts that way. Be the first to sign up! Or fifth. Four people started following in the three days between opening the account and writing this post. I have no idea how or why they found us on Twitter, but such are the mysteries of the interwebs. We’re @polentical, of course.

And here are four recent missives I found while exploring the Land of Twitter. There are some jewels lurking amongst the pebbles…

1. Melissa Harris-Perry reminds us of the political reality behind the Rush Limbaugh / Bill Maher brouhaha:
