Tuesday Night Video – SNL Presents Eastwood and Chair

Parodies are usually less slick than the original. One of the things I like about Saturday Night Live’s take on Clint Eastwood’s bizarre turn at the Republican National Convention is that they kept the crazy, and just gave it slicker packaging and better timing.

It’s not a matter of individual speeches or strategic positioning. The Republican Party is where it is because that’s where the base is. You’ve watched that whole primary process. The Republican candidates had to appeal to their base, which is by and large elderly white people arguing with empty chairs.

60 Second Movie Review: Die Hard (1988)

I’ve been catching up on my holiday viewing. From 1988. (Fun fact: Die Hard is set on Christmas Eve and was released in Uruguay on Christmas Day, 1988.) And did you know it was already a sequel? Novelist Roderick Thorp had written the book, The Detective, Nothing Lasts Forever (1979), as a sequel to The Detective (1966), which was made into a 1968 film with Frank Sinatra.
