The Daily Show on Personhood

I really think I’m going to love Al Madrigal’s tenure as a Daily Show correspondent. He’s already getting some choice interviews in his field reports, including his segment yesterday on the lunacy surrounding personhood laws. You know, the legislation that equates a fertilized egg with an actual baby.

Madrigal went to Oklahoma, where State Senator Constance Johnson combined politics and satire to make a point.

JOHNSON: I put forth an amendment that outlaws the depositing of sperm anywhere other than a woman’s vagina.

Thursday Night Video – Ed Schultz Points Out How Reagan Was the Real Big Government Spender

The smart thing for governments to do in bad times is to spend more, to generate (yes) a stimulus effect on the economy when private companies are unable (or, in our current case, unwilling) to do so. Big Eddie points out that in previous recessions, such as the one faced by Ronald Reagan, Democrats and Republicans came together to do so. Now? Not so much. Government spending rose under President Reagan but has gone down under President Obama.

Big Government Republicans – Health Scare

When Democrats do big government healthcare, it looks like an attempt to provide more private health care options for the country. Sure, I’d prefer a single payer option, but it’s certainly better than when Republicans do big government healthcare. Current example: the Texas law currently working its way through the conservative court system which would force women seeking an abortion to have a sonogram, regardless of their personal wishes or the doctor’s advice.
