I’m sure that he will honor the ‘deaths of his fellow Texans’ with new, strict regulations to prevent future accidents.
I won’t hold my breath while waiting for a safer Texas.

I think the cartoon is more than fair. Perry is probably more likely to spend taxpayers money on lawsuit against the newspaper, than on enforcing regulation to prevent future accidents like that.

one person a day has been killed by guns in chicago since jan first. nuf said. almost as much as were killed in the whole country of england for the entire year of 2012. If that makes any sense to dittoheads that don’t like factoids….don ‘t confuse me with the facts.

He was very Pentecostal even before he became a preacher. Thanks for sharing this lovely moment in history. Soul Train was the greatest show ever! So much better than all the other “dance shows” on the air at the time. Cornelius was so cool and smooth. It’s a beautiful moment from a time when Peace and Love were still considered possible. But it’s one thing to say gun laws haven’t significantly reduced gun violence, quite another to say they couldn’t. Both the Brady Law and assault weapons ban had serious, specific flaws. The most conspicuous problem with the Brady Law was that it didn’t affect private sales: You could buy a gun from a non-licensed dealer—say, at a gun show—without anybody checking to make sure you didn’t have a criminal record or some other characteristic that made it illegal for you to have a weapon. The big loophole in the assault rifle ban was that its definition of prohibited weapons, which manufacturers were able to circumvent by making minor modifications to existing guns. But gun control advocates have learned a lot since that time. And that’s one reason to think the proposals now on the table could have a bigger impact than their predecessors did.

My list is sadly incomplete. Gawker has a much longer list of people killed and injured by gun violence on Gun Appreciation Day (http://gawker.com/5977431/heres-a-list-of-people-injured-or-killed-by-guns-on-gun-appreciation-day). It includes two people killed by guns in the hands of children even younger than the Albuquerque boy.
