Crackdown on Domestic Dissent, Part 4

Whether you support their methods or not, Occupy Wall Street is doing a pretty good job highlighting how limited the right to political assembly is in the United States.

Boston: We Don’t Need No Stinkin’ Freedom

Boston authorities join in the effort to improve our doublespeak interpretation skills.

Thrill to the convoluted logic of Judge Francis McIntyre…

Authorities are “obligated by law to preserve Dewey Square as a space open to the public,” McIntyre added.

It makes perfect sense. The public has to clear out so that the public can be there.

Thrill to the gentle threats of Mayor Menino…

“We’re asking them to leave according to their own will and volition,” Menino told CNN affiliate WCVB. “After that we’ll make decisions about how we’ll clear off the site in the future.”

That is, we’re asking them to leave of their own will because otherwise, you know, it’d be unfortunate if some “decision” such as pepper-spraying or police batons might have to be made. What are you, some sort of wise guy?

Way to be the cradle of liberty, Massachusetts.

That’s right. We’ll fight for your right to protest in this country, so long as it’s all captured in a proper slogan.
