Thursday Night Video – Cee Lo and Kermit Duet on The Voice

Hot off his Christmas song with the Muppets, Cee Lo Green brought Kermit onto NBC’s The Voice to do a duet of “Bein’ Green.” Normally I’m a huge fan of Cee Lo’s fashion sense, but apparently it’s not easy wearing green, either.

Wednesday Night Video – Rainn Wilson Requests That You Avert Your Eyes

Angus T. Jones incited a whirlwind of mockery when he gave an interview to The Forerunner Chronicles. Jones is one of the stars of the CBS sitcom Two and a Half Men. Indeed, he portrays Jake, the half a man who is full-grown now that the series is in its tenth season.

Here’s the quote at the center of the controversy:

JONES: Two and a Half Men – if you watch Two and a Half Men, please stop watching Two and a Half Men. I’m on Two and a Half Men, and I don’t want to be on it. Please stop watching it. Please stop filling your head with filth. Please.

TV in Review: Modern Family, “Snipped”

I haven’t seen the very latest, but through the first three, each episode of Modern Family’s fourth season has been better than the last. In “Snipped,” it felt once more like we were peaking through a window in their lives, rather than watching a rusty creative team try to get back into game shape. (Writes the blogger who can’t help but mix metaphors. As Grandma used to say, you can’t teach old dogs which way the wind blows.)

So, what’s to like about “Snipped”?

TV in Review: Modern Family, “Schooled”

Remember two weeks back, when the Modern Family episode “Schooled” first aired? I don’t. Life has been busy with travel, people, and job stuff. You know, life been full of life. I am only just now getting back to occasional glimpses at what’s larger than life. Television.

TV in Review: Louie, “New Year’s Eve”

(Warning! My TV reviews tend to have spoilers…)

I’m a little late recapping the season finale of Louie, but then again, they’re a little early with the whole “New Year’s Eve” thang, and I resent them stopping for a breather. Louie shouldn’t ever be allowed to stop. Does this man really look like he needs a rest?

Sunday Night Video – Saturday Night Live Takes on the Obama-Romney Debate

From Obama’s hems and haws to Romney’s robotic stare, SNL did a decent job yesterday. It’s not laugh-out-loud, but definitely amusing. They present a strong contrast between Obama’s excessive geniality and Romney’s machine-like falsehoods.

TV in Review: Modern Family, “Bringing Up Baby”

I didn’t realize that Modern Family was even back on the air, until I was texting with T. and she mentioned watching it with her parents. It seems like just yesterday that Gloria discovered her pregnancy. And according to “Bringing Up Baby,” it was just yesterday.

And away we go (with some spoilers)…

TV in Review: Louie, “Late Show: Part 3″

(Warning! My TV reviews tend to have spoilers…)

So Louie’s Late Show three-parter came to an end last week with the proper amount of expected surprise. Any regular viewer would know that Louie can’t get the job as host of The Late Show. It’s not because getting the job would be unrealistic, as Louis CK is happy to upset the applecart when it comes to viewer expectations of realism.

In a way, it would have been fun to see Louie get the gig just to follow how depressed and oppressed it would make him, week after week. Louie is an heir to Letterman in the sense of their perpetual dissatisfaction, although Louis has a sweetness that Letterman lacks. But no, The Late Show starring Louie would derail the story arc too much. Louie has to fail, but at its best Louie fails in a way that isn’t predictable. Louie fails in a fashion that makes us question.

Here’s my recap, mostly in pictures…

TV in Review: Louie, “Late Show: Part 2″

In a stereotypical sitcom, when the lead tells his ex-wife that he has a shot at replacing David Letterman on the teevee, but that it would mean less time taking care of their kids, the ex-wife would berate the lead for putting career ahead of family. Don’t worry that Louie abandons all of that. Louie still gets berated, but it’s from a different angle. Janet wants him to advance his career.

JANET: Forget the kids. The kids. I got the kids. You go do this. You go get this job. You go get this job.

TV in Review: Louie, “Late Show: Part 1″

I’m lucky that Louie took a week off last week, so I can run late and yet still post this hybrid review/recap just before they air Part 2 of “Late Show” tonight.

Part 1 of “Late Show” had Louie doing his stand-up in Los Angeles, showing off the depth that makes him different. How many observational comics actually notice that we’re, you know, at war? And not the center of the universe?

LOUIE: Only in America do we have this luxury. We get to decide when they find out that there is — Kids in Afghanistan don’t have, just — they find out. They find out. They find out when they ask “How come Uncle Henry’s head is gone now? How come that happened? Oh, because of the war.”
