I want to finally finish The Hunger Games book before seeing the movie, but stand-up comedian Doug Benson suggests that I shouldn’t be in such a rush. A frequent segment on his Doug Loves Movies podcast is “Watch This Not That.” This week’s installment:
The number one movie in the country is The Hunger Games, the least exciting movie about children trying to kill each other that I have ever seen. The number two movie is 21 Jump Street, the funniest adaptation of a TV show that wasn’t funny that I have ever seen. So watch Jump Street not Hunger Games.
This has been “Watch This Not That.”
I like Doug, but still plan on watching both, although my attempt to avoid the excess of Hunger Games buzz is obviously starting to fail.

The January 13th edition of Doug Loves Movies is particularly worthwhile if you would enjoy hearing how David Cross winds up singing that he is the
Blackberry Buggerer from Birmingham — don’t leave your poop shoot un-attended!
I think it was David Cross who sang that.
Might have been Patton Oswalt.
Definitely Cross.
P.S. A blurry pic of Cross, Oswalt, and Wayne Federman at DLM can be found here.

I have no proof, but Chelsea Peretti sounds really high on the latest Doug Loves Movies podcast. Maybe that’s just her laugh? The episode itself is about average — steadily enjoyable, not brilliant — but if you’ve ever wondered what the Parks and Rec writer might sound like stoned, check it out.

And for those of you interested in her stand-up, a video after the jump.

The latest podcast of Doug Loves Movies ties together several of my recent posts, in part because two of the twelve guests were Freaks and Geeks star Samm Levine and WTF’s host Marc Maron. It’s a special Christmas episode with additional players such as Jimmy Pardo, Brian Posehn, and Sarah Silverman. If you like the idea of Hollywood comedians bantering with each other in an unscripted forum, then this might be a good episode to start listening to DLM. If that idea turns you off, then run very far away, as it’s a particularly long episode, due to the number of guests, all of whom are shown in this very white photo:

If you like movies, well, Doug Loves Movies, and the podcast by that name can be a very entertaining listening when you need something light. He’s running a contest right now called Santa Size Me, based on his idea for a new Morgan Spurlock film. Listeners made trailers for a movie in which Spurlock attempts to eat as many cookies and drink as much milk as Santa must go through on Christmas Eve. Like many ideas concocted by stoned comedians, I think the concept is stronger than the results.
