Tuesday Night Video – SNL Mocks Undecided Voters

Have you already seen the Saturday Night Live video from the weekend, in which they mock the stupidity of undecided voters? There are a couple of major insights that are finally breaking into the national consciousness this election year. One of them is the realization that tax cuts for the rich benefit the rich and no one else. I hope that another is that the undecided voter is the uninformed voter, at best.
Rmoney was in here in Ohio, Vandalia. A middle aged woman and a veteran were interviewed by a local tv station and by their answers to a couple of questions both only had a vague idea what Mittens was about. Listening to them all I could think WTF? They don’t have a clue. Another thing about the rally is that there were more people there at 1PM than when the rally started at about 3PM. Less than 1000 and closer to 500 people stayed to see him compared to more than 2000 earlier. That’s what a relative posted on her facebook page anyway. She was befuddled that people didn’t stay just because of the drizzle. I told her that Obama had a rally in WI with 18,000 and rain the other day? She said commies are a more dedicated bunch. But not quite that nicely. Made my day!
I actually lived in Ohio for a few years as a kid, not that far away from Vandalia, in the very liberal town of Yellow Springs. At least, it was very liberal then.
In any case, Ohioans are getting a chance to see Romney and Obama up close, a lot, and it seems pretty clear that the more that they see, the more that they like Obama. I’m actually surprised with the extent of Obama’s lead in Ohio right now. Is it because of Mitt’s auto industry policy? Because of his comments on the 47%? A lot of it seems to be that they just don’t like him personally, in addition to his politics.
Yellow Springs is still liberal. The atmosphere is laid back. You can tell as soon as you start talking to anyone that lives there. Many have been there for 30-40+ yrs. and have little shops or coffee houses. Not very big but tourism and population has risen in that general area because people are getting out of Dayton, Columbus and Cincy. As for Mitt’s auto policy, Dayton and the surrounding 75-100 miles used to be almost all GM along with the businesses that were kept alive because of GM. Bars, Hotels and whole communities. When GM shut down it’s last plant in Moraine several years ago, everyone thought that they were done. They are coming back now because other auto related businesses can expand because so many plants and workforces were saved because of the auto rescue money. It has also benefited Honda and Toyota, which is expanding and building new plants in mid and western Ohio and eastern Indiana. So I guess you could say that Romney’s ideas about letting the auto industry crash and burn is a sore spot with many Ohio workers. The auto workers that I know don’t like him and several are repubs. But they still don’t know how they are going to vote. (So they say but that’s not the feeling that I get from them.) Some say that they might not vote. But that’s OK with me. One thing that they all seem to agree on though, is that he’s an ass and not someone that they could like if they met him. They like Ryan more and that’s scary to me.
Thanks for the local insight into Ohio! And yeah, that is scary that they would like Ryan even more. One of the great things about Romney (for his enemies) is how transparent he is. Well, the whole 47% remark helped a few who still couldn’t see through him. But some people still take Ryan to be a serious thinker, and that is extremely frightening. Unlike Sarah Palin, he’s unlikely to disappear into reality TV after the election.
True about Ryan. He’s had his sights on bigger things for himself ever since he got into politics and no matter what he says about wanting to help the country, if him, or people like him, don’t get their way, they will obstruct and fight against everything even if it is detrimental to the country or the world. That’s what’s scary!
