Paul Ryan’s Trouble with Numbers

Running Things

Under three, high twos. I had a two hour and fifty-something.

[Ryan] is listed as having finished [his only marathon] in 4 hours, 1 minute, and 25 seconds.

If I were to do any rounding, it would certainly be to four hours, not three.

Ryan’s explanation of his misstatement

Mr. Budget Man shows an astounding
Skill with numbers plain folks find confounding.
Changing “larger than four”
To “a little bit more
Than 2:50″ for him is just rounding.

He seems to have had a problem with numbers for quite a few years. I don’t run, but some friends do, and they say that when they have a good run, they remember their times without “rounding” anything.

13 years ago I ran my only marathon at 3:59:15 (slightly faster than Mr. Ryan) and there’s no way on earth I would mistakenly believe I had run it between 2:50 and 3:00, or that I was remotely capable of such an accomplishment without a lot more training than I’ll ever put in. It’s very difficult to believe this wasn’t an intentional lie.

It seems pathological. Other lies he’s told could benefit his candidacy if they are believed. Did he think he’d get votes for being a better runner?

It does seem that the lies come much to easy and often from many on the repub side these days. What’s sad ,and frightening, is that so many take what they say, as the truth. I haven’t run since track in high school. Then only after being threatened. I did shot put, discus and the 220. Damn, that was 39 yrs. ago. :p
