Saturday Night Video – Psy, “Gangnam Style”

Tonight a friend finally clued me into the genius that is Psy, the stage name of South Korean rapper Park Jae-Sang. I can see why this video and song are sweeping the world. The dance is described as comic, but dammit, the guy has presence and owns it! There are all sorts of gendered moves, and yet the men and women are dancing together rather than for each other. My favorite moment is probably the guy in the elevator. Yeah, my faith in humanity is temporarily restored.
UPDATE on 8/26: Sukjong Hong wrote a fascinating article on the critique of income inequality embedded within Psy’s video.
When I first saw this video I had to play at least once a day for a week or so. It’s so fun and catchy
I’m still returning to it on occasion! There’s also a live version on YouTube of Psy performing the song in front of a staggeringly large crowd.
Ooh. I’ll have to check that one out
Here’s the link! I’m also going to try and embed it in this comment…
cool! I’ll check that soon enough. Have you seen Dany Pudi’s new youtube show “BookClub” It’s pretty good. http://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PLamdUEW_ElS7IVOL04AwwBbP1CSzRTA8Y
