Quote of the Day: Howard Stern on Responding to the Aurora Horror

The real story is, the President of the United States and Mitt Romney — the two guys running to be President in 2012, they’re running currently — both of them are so fucking pussy-whipped by the NRA, the National Rifle Association, they’re such fucking cowards, the two of them, that neither one of them are willing to get up there and say we need a full ban on assault weapons.

Must be nice to live in your own self-righteous little cubbyhole. There’s not a damn thing this president, or any other for that matter, can do about gun-control. In America we have three branches of government. Perhaps someone might consider giving Mr. Stern an ABC Back to School lesson.
If you think there is nothing that any president can do about gun control, I would remind you about the Federal Assault Weapons Ban, pushed by President Bill Clinton, and passed in 1994. That’s why I linked to the articles on Salon, so that people unaware of this history would recognize that previous presidents have pushed for and successfully passed bans on assault weapons.
If you disagree with banning them or think that the current political reality is different, please feel free to say so, but saying “There’s not a damn thing this president, or any other for that matter, can do about gun-control” is to ignore fairly recent history. Also, I like to keep the comments section fairly civil, so it’d be great if you made your point without calling me self-righteous.
I’m so very sorry. Sincerely. I mean Howard Stern was being self-righteous, not you! Perhaps I should have clarified my statements. I meant SINCE 1994, after which the NRA went to war with those in Congress who voted for the ban, thus ushering in Newt and his idiotic Contract with America”.
Politicians have since learned, ya don’t fool around with the NRA!
Okay, I understand your comment more now. And while I agree with Stern on this issue, I also agree that he can be self-righteous. He would probably agree as well, on his good days. It’s an aspect of his that drives me batty when I disagree with him, but that’s a different story.
You make a good point about the NRA going after politicians who voted for the ban, but I think they’re already going after Obama and other Democrats with all that they can. They’re already saying that Obama is trying to take their guns away, so would it really be worse if he took a stand on banning assault weapons? Perhaps, but I still think it’s a moral issue which could be accepted by the public if politicians (and not just Obama) took a bolder leadership stance.
