About MatthewI care about politics, but also enjoy tabloid talk. So what’s a boy to do?
Yeah, when I hear the word “trillion,” I’m like, “okay, my brain is going to take a nap for a while.” Selfishly, my favorite option is eradicating the student loan debt.
It may be selfish, but it would also make perfect economic sense! If not full student debt forgiveness, what about making the loans zero percent interest? It rewards those who invested in education and also gets money into the economy. The alternative, of course, is giving money to the banks and rewarding them for screwing up the economy. Unfortunately, that’s the preferred course for our (not so) Benevolent Rulers.
Yeah, the interest rates are really the killer! When I was laid off a few years ago and had to go into forbearance, during that time, the interest was so high that it nearly undid all the payments I had previously made. It’s ludicrous. Forcing the average person to go into debt by attending school, so that they have a shot to get a job, which the shot is not as good as it used to be, is not the way to start adulthood. I wish I was smarter about economics, so I could write an essay about it. Gets me riled up.
Not that petitions tend to incite action, but you might be interested in “Support the Student Loan Forgiveness Act of 2012″ if you haven’t seen it yet.
