Sunday Night Video – Bill Maher on Mitt Romney’s Marital Status

What’s startling about Birtherism is how accepted and acceptable it is in the conservative movement. Sometimes the only way to fight the extreme is to mirror it, and ask what it would look like if Mitt Romney were treated with the same sort of bigoted rumors circulated against Barack Obama.
MAHER: Mitt Romney comes from a Mormon background. I don’t know how many wives he has. I’m not saying I believe in that. I’m just saying that he was born on a Mormon compound. I’m not a Wifer, but for some reason he’s never shown his original marriage certificate.
Very witty. It reminds me of the English “Have I got news for you.”
That’s a show I’ve heard of but never seen. It must have been going on for some time now, as I think it was on the air back when I lived for a year in Scotland, which was in the early ’90s.
Hello Matthew – “Have I Got News For You” has been going for years. It is a quiz show obviously about the news but it is really about taking a pop at politicians and anyone else in the public act who acts like a prat. Ian Hislop who edits Private Eye is one team leader and the other is the very dry comedian Paul Merton. Sometimes, the guests are politicians and it is wonderful to see them squirm.
I do like British quiz shows. When I was growing up, public radio in the U.S. would sometimes play My Word! Although that was more about language than politics or the news.

The thing about mirroring is so true…
With major Republican figures such as Donald Trump doubling down, I’m hoping that the “Wifer” thing spreads.
Hahaha, me too
It is a pretty hilarious approach.
