Quote of the Year: President Obama

I have to tell you that over the course of several years as I have talked to friends and family and neighbors when I think about members of my own staff who are in incredibly committed monogamous relationships, same-sex relationships, who are raising kids together, when I think about those soldiers or airmen or marines or sailors who are out there fighting on my behalf and yet feel constrained, even now that Don’t Ask Don’t Tell is gone, because they are not able to commit themselves in a marriage, at a certain point I’ve just concluded that for me personally it is important for me to go ahead and affirm that I think same sex couples should be able to get married.

It’s taken four years but by god Joe Biden has finally done something…sort of. He’ll go down in history as the guy who inadvertently forced the president to promote his position on the issue, which is probably still more than most of us can say.
I initially thought that they put Biden out there to say it first, to draw attention and then ease everyone into Obama’s position, but Obama is saying that he had planned on making the announcement soon, only Biden forced him to make it sooner.
Quote of the year? Unfortunately you’re probably right. There are things the man could say that would mean a lot more, but we’re not going to hear them.
“The U.S. will stop obstructing the world’s attempts to solve the climate crisis and become a leader on this issue.”
“Torture is evil and it is against U.S. law. Those responsible for it will be prosecuted.”
Keeping people from marrying is bad, but the Obama administration (and, to a large extent, the media) are ignoring things that are much worse.
Yeah, you’re entering into Quote of the Decade territory there. Although I have to say I did not see this one coming.
Long over due. I found Bill Maher’s take on this pretty funny as well. We need more Joe Biden gaffes to get more progress in this country
I didn’t see the Real Time on this! I’ll have to go and see if I can find it on the web…

Finally got a chance to view this. Thanks for the link! Maher is spot on with his advice for Democrats:
