Saturday Night Videos – The Ed Show Takes On Rush Limbaugh
March 3, 2012 3 Comments
This week Rush Limbaugh went on record that women who have sex are sluts. It’s rare for him to backtrack on his bile, which is why his statement
I sincerely apologize to Ms. Fluke for the insulting word choices.
is being misunderstood as an actually apology, rather than what it is, which is a weasel’s claim that style is what counts here, and not substance.
Ed Schultz went after Limbaugh yesterday, including a discussion with Democratic strategists Krystal Ball and Karen Finney. Ball herself was a target of Limbaugh’s misogyny when she ran for office in 2010.
It’s important to keep up the pressure because Limbaugh is influential and he is not alone. Fellow conservative leader Bill O’Reilly joined in yesterday. O’Reilly, you may recall, had to settle out of court in 2009 with the producer who sued him for sexual harassment, including telling her sexual fantasies over the phone asking her to use a vibrator. It was the same year that Rush Limbaugh was caught at the airport smuggling Viagra without a prescription.
Eric Boehlert (from Media Matters) and Mike Papantonio (from Ring of Fire Radio) joined Ed to point out how this is a matter of partisan loyalty for the Fox Republican News channel.
We know that these bullies won’t stop their bigotry out of kindness. President Obama knows, which is why his personal phone call to Sandra Fluke was both the decent thing to do for her and the right thing to do in keeping up the pressure on Limbaugh. So long as the media runs on shock and outrage, we might as well try to guide them to be shocked and outraged against things that count, such as misogyny.

What charming gentlemen. Limbaugh’s statement was certainly NOT an apology. At best it was the typical ‘not sorry, just sorry I got in trouble’ response. The only thing he got right was his description of his word choices as insulting. They certainly were.
Yes, his word choices were insulting…and then in his apology, he makes it worse, talking even more about how society shouldn’t pay for contraception, totally ignoring both the health issues and that we’re not talking about society paying for it…we’re talking about job-based health insurance.
