Rachel Maddow and the Language of Lefty Politics

The left (and sensible centrists) have been appropriately outraged over the rape facilitation legislation that various Republican state legislatures have take up of late.
Anti-abortion bills. Rachel Maddow took a look at this issue yesterday and her segment made me wonder why the Democrats aren’t better at messaging. Trans-vaginal or not, these ultrasounds are medically unnecessary elements of the Republicans attempt at social engineering. Why not call them out for forced medical experimentation, and make them address the issue of medical necessity?

Maddow is often adept at messaging. This came into play in a later segment in which she repeatedly calls casino mogul Sheldon Adelson “Newt Gingrich’s billionaire.” That’s much more accurate and understandable than talking in terms of “funder” or “backer” or other innocuous sounding terms.

Yesterday’s Rachel Maddow Show was strong from start to finish. She closed by talking with Frank Rich about his new article in New York Magazine, “Whitewashing Gay History,” about supposedly pro-gay politicians who do much to scuttle the advance of gay rights.

I always feel less educated on those evenings when I cannot catch Rachel Maddow… and I love how she has so much fun without being mean or bitter, although perhaps sometimes a little sarcastic! Love to find others who feel the same way….

I know, she’s such a terrific model of standing up for what’s right but doing it with delight! I know that my own bitterness often comes through, but I definitely take her as a model. Smart and articulate and fun…she’s got it all.
