Friday Night Video – Jon Stewart visits David Letterman

In case you missed it, Jon Stewart was on The Late Show with David Letterman this week. In the middle of them describing the artificiality of Mitt Romney, Stewart takes a comic left turn which brings up Letterman’s workplace infidelity. I love me some awkward laughter.

Virginia Republicans Pass Rape Facilitation Legislation

I first mentioned this issue last night. Over at Slate, Dahlia Lithwick has one of the better rundowns of the new law passed by Virginia Republicans (and soon to be signed by radically right-wing governor Bob McDonnell) which will force many women seeking an abortion to be raped by a transvaginal probe. It’s for no medical reason, so it’s either to punish them for their supposed wrongdoing or because these Republicans get off on rape. Perhaps a bit of both.

Friday Movie Review: Pina 3D

Pina Bausch was a German dancer and choreographer of enough renown that Wim Wenders set out to make a 3D movie about her dance troupe. Bausch died suddenly in 2009, two days before Wenders was due to start filming. The documentary Pina turned into a tribute, and it’s stunning. You don’t have to be a dance aficionado to enjoy the film (I’m certainly not), but it does help to love images — striking images that move beyond words.
