So now I am awaiting all the breathless calls that this means we should do more profiling in our policing. Please stop all the white men at colleges, train stations, and airports!
And while I say this to mock profiling, I do wonder whether such a tack wouldn’t be as good as profiling gets.

In the summer of 2008, I was teaching expository writing to groups of middle school kids, on the campus of a fancy private university. In each of the three two-week sessions, about two thirds of the students were girls. And in each of the three two-week session, approximately one hundred percent of the girls were reading Twilight.

Perez Hilton has links to Lindsay Lohan’s Playboy pictorial. The photoshoppedness of it all is fairly appropriate, given that Lohan is the pinacle/nadir of the current tabloid frenzy-making machine. She is also someone who can be luminescent outside of and beyond Photoshop, who can capture the movie camera Old Hollywood style. Admittedly, I never saw Herbie the Love Bug, but in both Mean Girls and A Prairie Home Companion, she displayed a big picture presence. She must sense that she has that capability as well, given her obsession with Marilyn Monroe, whose poses she recreates for photographer Yu Tsai.
